YEO VALLEY ORGANIC GARDEN FESTIVAL
I’m really excited to be returning to this years Garden Festival. The event is…
Below is a selection of the artworks which I’ll be bringing to the festival.
SNOWDROP BALLET
Galanthus nivalis – ‘Milk flower of the snow’
A flurry of snow-white dancers visited by a solitary bee, the prima ballerina of the winter show. This piece has been inspired by snowdrops at the woodland edge
I created the original artwork using local, natural and sustainable raw materials wherever possible. These include Stanton Drew oak bark; ochres found in the Mendip hills and mud from the Chew Valley.
The paper that I use for my originals is Saunders Waterford paper which is a fine quality water colour paper made at St Cuthbert’s Mill in Wells and whenever possible I use Coates Willow charcoal made in the Somerset Levels.
The provenance of the materials that I use and the subject that inspires it is central to my work.
Declines in the health and population of pollinators pose what could be a significant threat to biodiversity. To underline just how precious pollinators are, I have applied gold leaf to the bee in the original artwork and the limited edition prints.

This artwork is inspired by majestic, Angelica Flowers and visiting pollinating bees and wasps. Wasps in particular love this plant and although they often get bad press they are vital pollinators and assist in helping to maintain a healthy ecology.
Declines in the health and population of pollinators pose what could be a significant threat to biodiversity. To underline just how precious pollinators are, I have applied gold leaf to the wasps in the original but also to this special print edition.
