‘BAOBAB’

Andansonia digitata

This piece of artwork was commissioned by Yeo Valley in celebration of the amazing Baobab tree. The purpose of the artwork was to appear on the pack design for a special, artist edition yoghurt marking the collaboration between Yeo Valley, The Organic Herb Trading Company and B’Ayoba a local company in Zimbabwe that employs local people to farm wild Baobab fruit.

The mighty Baobab tree is known as ‘the tree of life’ and its fantastic, waxy, white flowers are pollinated by fruit bats!

The original artwork and preliminary drawings have been created using natural, raw materials found in the Yeo Valley and in Zimbabwe. These include Somerset willow charcoal, Mendip ochres, mud from Zimbabwe and a natural dye created from seed pods found near to where the Baobab grows.

This project celebrates the amazing Baobab tree and the coming together of two different communities in a way that finding a market for Baobab can benefit both the farmers in Africa and people in the uk who from consuming Yeo Valley Baobab & Vanilla yoghurt can experience amazing health benefits.

It was delicious!!!
